About Charter Oak State College
Charter Oak State College is a distance learning college established in 1973 to assist adult learners in completing their college degrees. Today they proudly offer "Degrees Without Boundaries" by utilizing more than 180 online courses. Students can choose to pursue a Bachelor's degree, Associate degree, or certification in a wide variety of programs of study—without ever physically stepping into a classroom. A personal Academic Counselor helps students customize a degree, based on the student's educational background and goals.
Students from all 50 states and 9 different countries are enrolled with the College. Additionally, 45% of Charter Oak graduates report professional advancement as a result of their Charter Oak degree and 48% of recent graduates have gone on to pursue an advanced degree. Charter Oak is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Connecticut State Board for Higher Education.
Our Programs:
We offer 17 programs – "concentrations" – that can be completed through exclusive use of Charter Oak online courses. These include: American Studies, Business Administration, Child Studies, Child and Youth Development, Criminal Justice, Health Care Administration, History, Individualized Studies, Information Systems Studies, Liberal Studies, Organizational Leadership, Paralegal Studies, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Public Safety Administration and Sociology. Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Public Safety Administration and Sociology. Online courses are offered in 5, 8 and 15-week terms for scheduling flexibility.
Additional programs can be completed through multiple sources of credit including Charter Oak online courses, courses taken at other regionally accredited colleges, college-level examinations such as CLEP and DANTES, non-collegiate credit evaluated by ACE or PONSI, military training and occupations.
Charter Oak State College has been recognized as one of America’s "Top Military-Friendly Colleges". We are proud partners with CGI, ARNG and Navy College Distance Learning Program. In-state (Connecticut) veterans enrolled at Charter Oak are eligible for a 50% course fee waiver benefit.
