Today, we begin a series of posts about terrific colleges that you should know about as you make your college plans. Today, we profile Granite State College in New Hampshire.

Granite State College

How did the word “granite” get into the name of a college?

It’s because Granite State College is located in New Hampshire, which is known as “The Granite State.” And that’s more than a slogan. If you visit New Hampshire, you will see that granite really is everywhere. It is quarried in the state and there are buildings made of granite, fence posts made of granite, statues made of granite, and lots more.

Things that are made of granite are solid and durable – and that is certainly the case for Granite State College, which has been around for nearly four decades. Since 1972, it has provided access to higher education to more than 50,000 students, both online and at nine campuses throughout the state of New Hampshire.

Granite State College offers flexible bachelors and associates degrees, as well as post-baccalaureate teacher certification programs, all designed to support the needs of working adult students and their employers.

Granite State College is known for its small classes, affordable tuition and supportive faculty – and for delivering practical, relevant education. GSC offers hands-on learning experience, opportunities to connect with faculty members who are experts in their fields – and currently working in those fields – and a variety of field-based classes designed to connect students with the trends happening, right now, in the “real world.”

At Granite State, you have the flexible choice of taking classes online, on campus – or both.  In the future more colleges will be making that choice available to students. Granite State is offering it today.
