It is a solid precalculus course, featuring a lot of algebra and trigonometry. If you have a basic understanding of algebra, you are prepared for this class. Includes all the topics found in "College Algebra" in a more compressed form, and then continues past them.

It's a lot of pointless math that you will never use unless you are a math teacher or an engineer.

I wouldn't recommend this course or this website at all. I don't feel like there were enough resources to help you understand the lesson. Very few problems on the quiz were actually problem that were taught in the lesson. Also, there were so many technical problems with this course. When I informed them about it, they told me to go to khanacademy instead. I didn't pay a 100 dollars for them to tell me to go to khanacademy!

The book was poorly written for some units, taking into consideration that there are not examples for every specific set of problems. I also did not like the online lesson's given by Straighterline, nor the videos, but some may. This class should only be taken by people who will dedicate much time and effort into self-teaching themselves new concepts and material.

Very thorough! I worked many, many hours, and I learned a lot! I teach ACT/SAT Prep: I will be a much stronger instructor. I would say of both College Algebra and PreCal that they're not terribly difficult to pass, but they are very difficult to earn an 'A' (90%) in. But, hey, I did!

The Barnett, Ziegler, and Byleen, "College Algebra" series is designed to be user friendly and to maximize student comprehension. The goal of this series is to emphasize computational skills, ideas, and problem solving rather than mathematical theory. "Precalculus" introduces a unit circle approach to trigonometry and can be used in one or two semester college algebra with trig or precalculus courses. The large number of pedagogical devices employed in this text will guide a student through the course. Integrated throughout the text, students and instructors will find Explore-Discuss boxes which encourage students to think critically about mathematical concepts. In each section, the worked examples are followed by matched problems that reinforce the concept being taught. In addition, the text contains an abundance of exercises and applications that will convince students that math is useful. A Smart CD is packaged with the seventh edition of the book. This CD reinforces important concepts, and provides students with extra practice problems.
