Anthropology is the study of humanity, including its origins, developments through time (evolution), and current state. We will be focusing on one of the four subfields of anthropology — cultural anthropology. In this course, we will explore a variety of concepts and theories that help us understand the similarities, differences, connections, and disconnections experienced by world communities (including ourselves). This class will include an introduction to the basic concepts, goals, and research strategies of anthropology, the nature of culture, its role in humane experience, and its universality. This course encourages students to explore the complex interaction between individuals, social groups, social structures, history, and culture, and to apply theoretical principles of social analysis to critically interpret society.
