As an online learner, you may have found yourself asking, “What does it take to succeed in my courses?” Every day at StraighterLine, we help online learners do just that. Our affordable, self-paced courses are designed with student success in mind, but it’s good to consider that some strategies can be adopted that will further contribute to a successful online learning experience.
Here are some tips to help you become an online student success story:
1 - Don’t Give Up.
This may seem like a no-brainer, but simple persistence is perhaps the biggest factor in making it as an online student. You may encounter roadblocks along the way that aren’t typically found in traditional classroom-based education: technical difficulties, for instance.
2 - Use Your Support System.
It’s essential to develop a support system that can keep you on track with your online classes. Your friends, family, and colleagues can be your biggest advocates and sources of support. Successful students often acknowledge how how going back to school is a team effort.
But keep in mind that you always have a support system at StraighterLine, and we can help you work through any challenges that may arise. The important thing is that you keep going even when the going gets tough!
3 - Take Baby Steps.
Whenever you feel like your educational goals are impossible to achieve—or your coursework seems overwhelming—just remember that each individual assignment you complete is one step closer to that goal. Consider creating a to-do list with a plan for completing course topics. Move through your courses one topic at a time, and before you know it, you’ll be taking the final exam!
4 - Stay Motivated.
Try asking yourself why you signed up for online courses to begin with, and visualize your ultimate goal. Think of how proud your family will feel—or how proud you will be!—upon completing your courses, and ultimately your degree. Focusing on the outcome of what you will have achieved upon completing your courses can go a long way towards staying motivated.
5 - Build Confidence.
By starting with Straighterline, you will gain real experience and build your confidence. After all, you are never on your own when you enroll in our online courses. We have a dedicated team of student advisors who are always willing to answer your questions through chat or email; course managers who can review specific course-related inquiries; and subject-matter-experts who can provide feedback on course content.
Our commitment to your success doesn’t end with the completion of your general education courses – we’ve found that students who succeed at Straighterline, also succeed at the school they complete their degree.
