The Credit Transfer Process
When working with StraighterLine, the transfer process is straightforward. No matter which courses you take, these steps will be the same.
Once you’ve completed a StraighterLine course, you’re eligible to receive that credit and request a transcript to illustrate the credit you’ve earned. That transcript can be submitted to a college, university, or another administrative body that needs to recognize your credit. You’re eligible to receive credit by completing our courses due to credit recommendations from the American Council on Education (ACE).

Determine Which Classes Are Eligible
The first step in the process of transferring credit is to have a complete understanding of which of your courses are eligible for transfer — or which ones you’ve earned credit for. For a course to eligible, the course will be marked as “Complete” in our systems with a final grade greater than a 70% and be free from academic holds.

Request a Transcript
Once you’ve determined that your courses meet all of the eligibility requirements, you can request a transcript. Transcripts are what will enable you to demonstrate the credits you’ve earned to another college or university. These are important documents to complete the credit transfer process.

Submit Transcript to College or University
When you have your transcript, you can submit them to the requisite office or administrator to review at your college or university of choice. Who you need to submit your transcript to may depend on the specific college or university. You may submit it directly to a student advisor, or you may submit it to the academic registrar.
Make sure to check who or which office handles transfer credits at your particular school. We recommend contacting your college or university of choice to understand their policies and processes to ensure you receive the credit you deserve.
Whether your school chooses to accept and acknowledge your credit will depend on a number of factors. In most cases, they’ll judge whether the courses you’ve taken with StraighterLine are equivalent to the courses they offer (as recommended by ACE). Research these course equivalencies ahead of time to ensure the smoothest possible process.

Orientation & Tutorials
Taking courses online can be daunting, especially if you’re previously familiar with standard brick-and-mortar education models. There are a lot of new tools to learn and get used to, and depending on technology can add an extra variable to your classes.
