    What is the CLEP Exam or the College Level Examination Program? CLEP is the College Level Examination Program. The CollegeBoard offers 33 exams in a variety of subject matters which can help you receive college credit for what you already know. CLEP exams are offered in the following subject areas: Composition Literature Foreign languages History Social Sciences Science Math Business Currently, over 2,900 colleges offer credits earned through CLEP, though each school sets its own CLEP policy.     A Transfer Credit is a college credit earned at one institution of higher education that is later transferred to and accepted by another institution. A Transfer Credit can also be earned by passing competency exams that demonstrate mastery in a specific subject area. An earned college credit is considered a transfer credit once it is accepted by the “receiving” institution of higher learning. Receiving institutions decide which transfer credits it will accept, typically through the admissions or registrar’s office.
