Florida Gateway College formerly known as Lake City Community College is located outside of Lake City, Florida, near the juncture of Interstates 10 and 75 in northern Florida. The college is approximately 40 miles north of Gainesville, Florida, 60 miles south of Valdosta, Georgia, 50 miles west of Jacksonville, Florida, and 80 miles east of Tallahassee, Florida.

One of 28 public community colleges in Florida, it was established in 1961 as Lake City Junior College and Forest Ranger School. It evolved into Florida Gateway College formerly Lake City Community College in the early 1970s.

The college offers the Associate in Arts degree, which, by state law, must be accepted in transfer by the state universities in Florida. Florida state reports indicate that transfers from Florida Gateway College fare as well in their final two years at a university as those students who start at the university. Additionally, the college's two year Associate in Science nursing program consistently ranks at the top of all nursing programs in Florida. Its Golf and Landscape Operations program is recognized as one of the finest in the world.

Florida Gateway College has a complete fiber optic backbone for connection to the Internet and offers many courses and degrees on-line and through video conferencing. The campus received Florida Leader Magazine’s designation as the most beautiful college campus in Florida.
