Stanford University News reports “Several Stanford faculty members are working together to improve online education at the university by developing new software and testing it in the classroom.”

Students help each other in discussions similar to a comment thread on a social networking site. And supplemental interactive lessons can help reduce disparity among students with different educational backgrounds.” Here at StraighterLine, we couldn’t agree more. Read Full Article
Universities turn to outsourced instructors
USA Today, Didi Tang, 6/29/11
Although virtually unheard of a decade ago, more and more universities are turning to for-profit online learning partners to help them cut costs, access bigger markets and add expertise, according to this article in USA Today. "Given the significant reduction in state support for public education, compounded by the fact institutions need to maintain quality programs, we are going to see additional innovative attempts at partnerships that will address both issues of being able to provide cost-efficient programs that are high quality," says Daniel Hurley, director of state relations and policy analysis for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
The article cites several models of partnerships with online learning providers, including StraighterLine, who provides “…inexpensive online college courses…” and “…has direct agreements with 23 institutions, including Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan., Charter Oak State College in New Britain, Conn., and the online Western Governors University.” Read Full Article
