What Every College-Bound Student Should Know In January 2011

As 2011 begins, let’s take a look at some common beliefs about college that are simply not true.

Myth #1: It’s too late to start college because you’ve already missed application deadlines. That’s bunk. You can start your freshman studies right now, by enrolling in StraighterLine’s Freshman Year College Plan for $999 program.

Myth #2: You have to take the SAT or the ACT test to get into a college, and you’ve already missed the tests this year. That’s bunk too. More traditional colleges making standardized tests optional.  And you can enroll in any course you want at StraighterLine without taking standardized tests ahead of time.

Myth #3: If you weren’t an academic star in high school, you’re going to graduate from a second-rate college. This is beyond bunk. Even if you are a late bloomer, you can still graduate from a top college or university. You have several ways to do it. You can go to a community college and transfer to the best state schools in your state or elsewhere. You can also take courses at StraighterLine and matriculate at one of StraighterLine’s excellent Partner Colleges. So don’t worry about the past. Start moving forward.

Myth #4: If you don’t already have lots of money saved, you can’t start college in 2011. This is bunkissimo. You can start completing credit-worthy classes at StraighterLine without having a Daddy Warbucks bankroll. And you have 3 payment options. You can enroll in StraighterLine’s Freshman Year College Plan for $999 program.  Or you can take individual courses for as little as $39 each after you enroll in StraighterLine’s $99 a month program.

Myth #5: If you are working a job or parenting, you need to postpone college. This is uberbunk. Thanks to StraighterLine’s iCollege programs of distance learning, you can complete your coursework around your current schedule. You don’t need to put your educational dreams on hold. You can start learning now.

Yes You Can!

As you read the myths above, you probably noticed that traditional colleges are all about the things that you can’t do. You can’t start taking classes this year, because you missed application deadlines. You can’t get in without taking standardized tests. You can’t start college if you are parenting or working.

StraighterLine is different, because it’s all about what you can do. You can start right now. You can start college studies without taking the SAT, getting letters of recommendation or jumping through other hurdles. You can excel in college studies while you are working a job.

So if your New Year’s resolutions include earning a college degree, you are not too late. And yes, you can get started today.
