With the average time to earn a bachelor’s degree now approaching 6 years, it’s critical for adult students to have alternative, convenient and affordable pathways that reduce the time it takes to complete a degree. When you are ready to change your career and need the right academic credential to do so, you shouldn’t have to wait.
Competency based education (CBE for short, also referred to as “personalized learning”) shifts the balance between time and learning - it moves away from time being the constant to learning being the constant. Through CBE programs, students can dramatically reduce their time to degree. We are proud that 7 StraighterLine partner colleges have been picked to be a part of the Lumina Foundation funded Competency Based Education Network (C-BEN).
We’ve also added one new partner college this month. Based in Denver, Colorado, top-rated Regis University makes it easy for adult students to find a balance between educational, professional and personal responsibilities.
Regis University is consistently ranked among top universities, including recognition for 19 consecutive years by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best colleges and universities in the country. Founded in 1877, Regis University provides a values-based liberal arts education offering professional certifications and degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
Regis offers those that are working full time scheduling options and their unique learning formats include:
- Online Learning
- Directed Study
Regis University also awards adult students college credit for prior learning.
By enrolling in a competency based education (CBE) program, working adults can dramatically reduce the cost and time it takes to earn a college degree.
As interest in CBE has grown, the Lumina Foundation created the Competency Based Education Network (C-BEN) in the spring of 2014. Almost all competency based programs accept ACE Credit recommended courses in transfer – and most of the Lumina C-BEN colleges are also StraighterLine partners.
The StraighterLine partner colleges that are also members of the Competency Based Education Network are:
- Argosy University
- Brandman University
- Capella University’s Flex Path
- Charter Oak State College
- Excelsior College
- University of Maine at Presque Isle
- University of Maryland University College
