Is Online Learning the Cure for the Common Cold?
Studying online at StraighterLine solves a lot of problems. You can’t be late to class, because class starts when you turn on your computer. You can’t fall behind in your courses, because you can repeat units as often as you like. And you don’t have to commute to college, because college comes to you.
But that’s not all. Now Scarlett Crawford, one of our accounting students, tells us that StraighterLine has solved another problem too. Scarlett, who lives in Colorado, reports that thanks to StraighterLine, she was able to keep up with her class work while she was suffering from a really bad cold – possibly the flu.
“I had a minor setback with jury duty and then a really bad cold,” Scarlett writes, “which in a normal class would be impossible. But now, I can wait a day or so until I feel better and get back on track.”
If Scarlett were in a regular classroom, other students could have caught her flu too. That’s another good thing about StraighterLine. You can sneeze all you want on your computer without giving your cold to anybody else.
The quality and flexibility of Scarlett’s course have convinced her to take her studies further at StraighterLine. “I am so impressed with SL so far,” she writes, “and I will definitely take more classes.” She also plans to use StraighterLine courses in the program of home schooling that her 15-year-old son is following. Plus, she has enrolled at Charter Oak State College, one of StraighterLine’s Partner Colleges.
At Charter Oak, Scarlett can choose to take courses online. Or she can take courses in the classroom. But at that point, StraighterLine’s ability to keep everybody healthy might stop working. Sure, we’re going "viral "as more and more people learn about us on the internet. But we are not literally viral. (If you don’t know the difference, it might be time for you to take a biology course.)
But for the moment, StraighterLine remains the cure for the common cold, which is nothing to sneeze at.
