Albany State University:A top choice if you would like to attend one of America’s Historically Black Colleges

A Message for You from Dr. Everette J. Freeman, President, Albany State University

In 1965, The Higher Education Act designated a select group of American colleges and universities as Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's). They were all institutions which, from their founding, were dedicated to identifying and educating America’s most promising young African-American students. HBCU’s remain a vibrant force in American higher education today.

You have probably heard of the most famous of these institutions, such as Howard University, Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Tuskegee University. You might not know that there are many more HBCU’s across America too. In fact, more than 100 institutions are now counted among this select group.

Here are StraighterLine, we are proud to have one of them – Albany State University – among our select group of StraighterLine Partner Colleges. If you are interested in attending one of America’s HBCU’s, Albany State could be the college you are looking for.

Albany State University, located in southwest Georgia, offers undergraduate and graduate curricula through its four colleges (Sciences and Health Professions, Business, Education, and Arts and Humanities). In all, there are nearly 50 graduate and undergraduate degree programs. Albany State is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Education Specialist degrees. Albany State University is part of the University System of Georgia.
